Our Review
The word for this restaurant is "consistent". Whilst most other Indian restaurants change management and chefs on a regular basis (and thus go through periods of being great and being poor) this place has been at a consistently good level for at least the past ten years that I have been in Reading. (Over that period, it has also had the same sign right outside the restaurant, cautioning passers by of "high winds" in the area which amuses us every time we walk past).
Our Friday night take-away was delivered in 40 minutes. The take away menu said to ask for our "free gift" when ordering. This turned out to be a free starter of Vegetable Pakoras which were actually very good.
The main part of the order was: Chicken Biryani, Chicken Jalfrezi, Lamb Bhuna, Pilau Rices, Pashwari Naan and Stuffed Paratha. Chicken Jalfrezi was nice and hot - not for the faint hearted, but perfect if you are suffering from a cold that you want to flush out! Lamb Bhuna was fairly standard fare, but the quality of the lamb itself was better than most other places. Chicken Biryani was not as good as the other two dishes. The presentation of egg and cucumber on top could not hide the fact that the dish was bland, and the whilst the accompanying vegetable sauce added some taste, it was not a particularly nice one. The Peshwari Naan was cooked better than and tasted better than the Stuffed Paratha.
Overall this restuarant does not have any stand out dishes but it can be guaranteed to give you a decent meal every time you visit (or order) which is fairly rare for local Indian restaurants.
